- To lay the foundation for proper psychological, physical and social development of the child;
- To reduce the incidence of mortality, morbidity, malnutrition and school dropout;
National Vitamin A Prophylaxis Programme
Launched: 1970
Objectives:
- Prevention of vitamin A deficiency
- Treatment of Vitamin A deficient children
Special Nutrition Programmes
Launched: 1970
Objectives:
- To make people conscious of their nutri- tional needs
- To increase production of nutritious foods and its consumption;
- To provide supplementary nutrition to vulnerable groups through local production of foods.
Balvadi Nutrition Programme
Launched: 1970
Objectives:
- To supply about one-third of'the calorie and half of the protein requirements of the pre-school child as measure to improve nutritional and health status.
Food and Nutrition Board
Launched: 1964
Objectives:
- Nutrition Education and Training, both for the masses and for ICDS functionaries
- Conducting Mass Nutrition Awareness Campaigns
- Development, production and distribution of nutrition education/training material
Applied Nutrition Programmes
Launched: 1962
Objectives:
- Promoting production of protective food such as vegetables and fruits
- Ensure their consumption by pregnant and nursing mothers and children.
